Back to School

Well, here it is the end of the year and I'm doing a Back to School layout! LOL! I did this one with the June 19th sketch for SOUS.  Renee is in Grade 9 this year and as I post this, she is almost ready to graduate and go into high school. Juniour High has been so fantastic for her. The last 3 years have been just wonderful. I'm sure she'll be sad to leave. On the note of being sad, this is a pretty sad post for me. As you may have heard, SOUS will not be doing challenges any longer after this month, so this will be my last post for them. I have so enjoyed my time being on this design team. I remember getting the email inviting me to join the team and I was over the moon happy about it. It was supposed to be for 6 months, but I just never left. LOL! The years I spent there have been great.

We'd love for you to join us over on the SOUS blog and participate in our last sketch challenge, so hop on by and link up your layout!

Smarshmellow

We went camping on the May long weekend and of course, marshmellow roasting was high on the priority list for the kids. It was so cute, but Isla for some reason kept calling them "Smarshmellows" It made for a good title for this layout. This is done with the June 5th sketch from SOUS. Be sure to stop on by the blog to see the sketch and to see what other designers are showing daily there!

Happy Easter -SOUS reveal

It's another reveal day at SOUS and Leah had a new sketch for us to work with. I wanted to do this photo of Noah and Isla with their Easter Baskets so I started hunting for paper. Well, it seems I don't have anything purple in my stash, so I settled for the next best thing. I must really love this paper as I discovered that I used it for my last layout too, complete with the same background. Funny how our eye goes back to the same things.

If you have a chance to try the sketch out, make sure to link it up over on the SOUS blog! Check back daily as designers are offering inspiration everyday.

Where does the time go......

Renee turned 15 recently. Although birthdays are such a fun event, they are also a reminder for me of how fast time is flying by. She will be starting high school next year. I don't know that I'm ready for that yet. I see the days quietly slipping by and turning into years. It won't be long before she will be wanting to start her own life. It's not like I'm not used to kids leaving home. I've gone through it twice already, but she's my baby. My last. And that makes it harder to think about. So no more thinking about it. I have to get busy cherishing all the days that she remains at home! I love teenagers! They are my kind of people! :)

Shine Bright

May already! Hard to believe! Well, today I have a layout for you based on Leah's sketch for SOUS. The sketch itself looked kind of mixed media to me and here's the thing...I do mixed media and I do layouts, however, I don't do mixed media layouts lol. Oh, believe me I've tried and I just don't like how they turn out for me. There are so many stars of that particular style, but alas, I'm not even going there. So to that end, the paint swipes became layers for me. :) You just have to interpret things according to your own style and that's the beauty of it!

Anyways, the photos were taken of Renee before we left for her dance performance. She took ATS this term and loved it. The girl just shines when she dances. Here's a shot of her in another dance she performed....

Good thing she had time in-between to get changed. I used an odd collection of patterned papers for the layout. They are Bo Bunny's Sweet Tooth, which is primarily focused on cooking and baking, but the colors were perfect for her outfit and of course, I love the cute patterns.

Please stop on by the SOUS blog and see what designers are showcasing daily over there. Remember to link up your project on the side bar!

I Think You're Amazing!

This is the layout that I did for the second sketch of April at SOUS. Good thing it had several photo placements as I had quite a few pictures of the walk Noah and I took down to the lake. More and more geese are arriving by the day and they're so fun to watch. Noah likes to toss a few pebbles into the water while we're down there too.

Please join in the challenge if you can and link up on the side bar at SOUS. Also make sure to check back there daily as designers are sharing projects everyday.

Materials- Echo Park This and That Patterned Paper, Alpha Stickers, and Element Stickers  From my stash- Buttons, Twine, Metal Embellishment, Camera die cut, Ink-Ranger Tim Holtz Distress

Dance!

Good morning! Today I'm sharing a layout for SOUS done with Nanne's first sketch for April! I did this one to document Renee's new found passion....her love of dance. She started in the Fall of 2013 and is going strong  today. Her first recital was very exciting for us!

I recently started using a little money saving technique that I'd like to share with you. Scrap supplies can get very expensive as we all know, but I found myself going broke with adhesives, especially when you have sketches with lots of yummy layers to them. What I have started doing is arranging all my background papers and then stapling them on.  The whole background is held together with 4 staples and then I used adhesives to attach the photo. Usually I use pop dots as I like to  put embellishments poking out from beneath the picture. Plus it keeps the photo away from the staples as I'm not sure they are acid free. Doing this one little thing has saved me so much money.

I Love Summer

Oh how I wish Summer were here already! But doing this layout will have to be good enough until it does come. I used the March 27th sketch from SOUS done by Leah to do this layout of the grandkids in the pool last summer. What a great time they had in there. It was so nice during the week that we spent at the lake. I think they were in the pool everyday several times.

I used a line from Carta Bella called Summer Lovin to do this one. It had some really fun patterns and colors.

Please do stop on by the SOUS blog where designers are sharing their take on the sketch daily. If you try out the sketch, link it up on the side bar over there.

Let's Play or Not LOL!

I have a layout to share today that I did with the March 13th sketch at SOUS. I had to take a big liberty with the sketch and use one photo instead of the three that are shown. It is rare that I scrap more than one photo at a time it seems, so I had to go with what I had!

The incident surrounding this photo just cracked me up. Isla had gotten some new dolls and when Renee said that she would play with her, Isla threw herself on top of all the dolls and wouldn't let Renee touch them. She is a definite character and it seems sharing isn't high on her list of priorities right now LOL! I just love when I can capture these little moments in life.

Designers at SOUS are sharing their layouts daily over on the blog, so make sure to stop on by there and see them all. If you give the sketch a try, make sure to link it up on the side bar!

Grateful for You

Good Wednesday morning! It's my day up on the SOUS blog. As usual, I'm scrapping way behind. These are photos of Noah and Isla from last Fall.  The leaves were so pretty at the lake and they had such fun playing in them as kids do.

I used a Fall line from Carta Bella  for this layout called A Perfect Autumn. I loved the cute little animals in the sticker collection.

Please stop on by the SOUS blog. Everyday designers there are showcasing their layouts. If you give the sketch a try, make sure to link it up.
